Big Bend NPBig Bend National Park was established in 1944, the 27th of America's National Parks to be designated. Big Bend is named for the notable bend in the Rio Grande along the U.S.-Mexico border. Encompassing a large and remote part of the Chihuahuan Desert, the park offers popular backcountry recreational activities in the Chisos Mountains and in canyons along the river. Due to its large range of elevations, the park has more types of birds, bats, and cacti than any other national park in the U.S. |
