Great Sand DunesDesignated in 2004, Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado is known for its massive natural dune formations. Formed by dried lake and stream beds releasing sand and sediment over thousands of years, some of the park's dunes are as tall as 750 feet, the tallest in North America. The astonishing landscape is crowned by the towering Star Dune, and bordered by the seasonal Medano Creek at the dunefield's edge. |
