Mesa VerdeMesa Verde National Park was established in 1906, the 7th American National Park to receive designation. Located in southwest Colorado, the park is best known for its well-preserved Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings, containing over 4,000 documented archaeological sites and over 600 ancient cliff dwellings. The most famous of these cliff dwellings is the Cliff Palace - dating back more than 700 years ago, this immense sandstone structure held over 150 rooms and was one painted with bright colors. |
